Wife of Bath's Tale
The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer was written during the Medieval period when every people would go on religious journeys across England. People went on these journeys for lots of reasons, and some were pure and impure, according to the morals of that time. The Wife of Bath would be considered impure but she is lots of fun.
She's had 5 husbands and is very proud of it. Maybe she is on this journey to look for number 6. She is very talkative and is not shy about giving advice to young lovers. Her behavior wasn't like the average woman back in the day, but her independence was inspiring.
In her tale, she made up a story about a knight who rapes a girl is about have his head cut off by King Arthur. However, the queen wants to give him a second chance. He has one year to find out what woman want most. After a terrible year, he finds an ugly old woman who says she'll help him if he agrees to marry her. She tells the queen that woman most want to be able to control men. The woman all love the answer so the knight lives. The ugly woman forces him to marry her. He is very upset about the whole thing so the woman gives him a choice. He can have an ugly wife that is good and loyal or a beautiful wife that is mean and unfaithful. He is the smartest man ever because he tells his wife to choose. Since he gave her what woman most want (control over men) she gave him a good and beautiful wife.
I think this is kind ironic that woman today want the same thing that woman wanted back then. If we could make that happen.
