Marriage of a Thousand Lies

It was pretty cool to hear S J Sindu talk about her novel and the story behind it. I thought was interesting to see how different gay people are accepted in her culture. Their challenges gay people faced in our country 30 years ago. It was an easy story to read, and she did a good job describing the scenes. In the movie, it was interesting to see how the director brought the scenes to life. I understand that she wanted to leave the story somewhat open and to leave you to make your own assumption of what could happen but for me I wish there was some kind of an ending to have some kind of closer to what happened.

Cosmopolis

Cosmopolis by Don DeLillo is a novel and a movie about a really rich guy who goes across town in his limo for a haircut. Alone the way, he meets all kinds of strange people from different backgrounds.  The topic for this week is the idea of privilege. From the setting of the story, we assume the main character is very rich. Most of us assume that rich people feel privilege. However, the people that he meets alone the way aren't all rich and the barber shop he is going to is not in a rich neighborhood. He wife does seem very rich. The problem is that he is losing all his money and his mind. His life seems empty and his is trying to fill the void with things like meaningless sex. His actions become more careless and desperate. He doesn't want people to know that his that desperate. The story seems more about power than privilege but maybe or the rich people are the ones in power.

Wonder Woman Theme Park

My design for a Wonder Woman theme park would be based on the home of the Amazon woman, Paradise Island , that is explained in the first issue of the comic. This theme park would be just for girls to empower them like Wonder Woman and to focus on positive character traits like the one she lived by-strength, love and justice. The design would be based on ancient Greece with ruins and outdoor theater. When they enter the park, they get to choose there Wonder Woman costume for the day, but since there kids they will wear t-shirt not sexy tops and bottoms. One activity would be a VR competition with Amazon woman and Olympic type games. Next they could ride in her invisible plane and watch 3D scene of the evolution of Wonder Woman throughout the years. They also could ride a roller coaster with VR headset they makes them feel like they are running and jumping with Wonder Woman to catch a bad guy. This park will allow girls to be the hero of there own stories while encouraging them to be g...

True Grit

In True Grit by Charles Portis, this story is an unusual western because its told from the point of view of a 14 year old girl who seems smarter than all the other characters. However, she needs help to get justice for her father's murder. More westerns create a myth of the old west with a hero that is a cowboy who is supposed to be a good guy. In this story, Rooster Cogburn is US Marshall, and Mattie wants to hire him to capture Tom Chaney and bring him to trial. However, Rooster don't fit the typical western hero. when Mattie first meets him he is still a bit drunk from the night before. He also only agrees to help Mattie for the money. As the story goes on, Mattie tries to remind in charge and Rooster keeps his grumpy character going. However, you can tell Rooster is beginning to respect and like Mattie because she is so spunky. The third member of their posse is a Texas Ranger who is very serious about his job and doesn't like Rooster's sloppy ways. He seems to be...
