Zombies Everywhere: week 13

The Walking Dead is my favorite graphic novel novel and long from TV series. There are over 50 zombie related graphic novel series available now. Some are based of serious literature, such as Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, but other are futuristic, such as Zombies vs. Robots, and others are based on traditional comic book such are Marvel Zombies. Since Zombies have become part of our entertainment culture, I would curate a zombie unit as a part of the course. Writer Robert Kirkman and writer Tony Moore first published The Walking Dead in 2003, and it won the Eisner Award in 2007 and 2010 for best continuing series at San Diego Comic Con. The series was inspired by Night of the Living Dead from the 1960s. The long form TV series began in 2011 and was based on the graphic novel.

The main character is Rick Grimes, sheriff's deputy from Georgia who comes out of a coma to find the world overrun by zombies, he becomes the leader of the survivors and the protagonist. The graphic novel with its combination of realistic illustrations that are highly detailed with the black and white format create a perfect post-apocalyptic world. This would appeal to illustration, animation, and game designer majors. The long from TV series would appeal to film majors. The well developed story line would appeal to creative written majors and the unusually layout and use of text would appeal to graphic design majors. BOAD major would be interested in the zombie industry since its so popular and there are so many publication available.

I would as the class to read the first book of The Walking Dead for class discussion. I would post a variety of other zombie graphic novels and movies so student could choose one to blog about.
